Google chrome and nothing else. But my fan noises are absolutely ridiculous. They will flare up to full speed for a second, the shut off.5 PROBLEMS with the Dell XPS 15 (9560) - But I still Love It!
Then speed up to half speed for 5 sec, then shut off, flare to full speed for half a second, shut off for 10 sec, then flare up again etc. It is crazy annoying. In the dell power manager I've selected the "quite" settings, my Nvidiati is only used when I'm running heavy applications like games, otherwise my intel integrated graphics is used, and my battery setting is at "better battery.
I don't get why my fans are acting so obnoxious when I am running nothing that requires this much cooling. The noise is ridiculous and very distracting since I am in such a quiet environment.
It'd be one thing if the fans were constant, but to flare on and off so quickly is a whole other deal. I could not find any solution elsewhere on the internet, so can somebody pleeease help me with this? I was really happy with my XPS when I first got it three months ago. As time goes on, though, I become less and less happy with it.
I keep running into small issues like this that have no obvious solution. With the Dell power settings on quiet, I personally still find the fans really irritating when doing light task such as browsing with multiple tabs opening, a colleague could even hear my laptop from across the room and thought my machine was about to overheat itself. I've contacted Dell, who will be sending out a tech to replace fans and heat sync but not getting my hopes up It has been addressed and fixed in the latest BIOS update, so I'm waiting for an update for the xps 15 Btw, exactly the same situation, they turn off for about 10 seconds and turn back on again, then off and FLARE UP as if my laptop was about to overheat, I see the exact same cycle happen all the time.
It seems like the fan is hitting something it makes so much noise. I cant sleep at night. If I run some code it wont stop making the noise. Its so annoying when you pay so much for a machine and realize that dell rolls out their product without even testing. BTW this my replacement laptop first one was having speaker problem which I found out is also very common. Why would they launch their flagship model with so many defects. When I first powered it on and began to progress through the setup screen, the fan turned on.
I hadn't even connected to the internet or opened any programs, yet the fan was still running at a noticeably audible and relatively frustrating level. The fan continued to run even after I finished the setup and left the computer idle. I downloaded the recommended updates hoping the fan noise would be cured but it wasn't. I then exchanged the laptop for another of the same model and specs at the Microsoft Store, as a new laptop fresh out of the box shouldn't have such an issue.
However, the same problem persisted. As I'm writing this, I have 5 tabs of Microsoft Edge along with 2 tabs of Google Chrome open, yet the fan is still working double time.
I know this can't be normal, especially since this is supposed to be a top of the line machine. My MacBook Pro of a similar price is currently running 50 tabs of Google Chrome, 40 tabs of Safari, and 10 other applications, yet is completely silent. I purchased the Dell XPS 15 because I read and was told it was the closest Windows compatible machine to a Mac in terms of power, reliability, and quality.
However, the apparent discrepancy in performance is pretty egregious. The other post on this topic came to the conclusion that all Dell XPS 15's have loud fans by Dell's design but that just can't be right. In addition, after doing a Google Search, I discovered that some people do have completely quiet machines. For those that have the fan issue, have you been able to solve it?

If so, how? For those that have completely quiet machines, where did you purchase them? Since I've already gone through multiple machines from the Microsoft Store with the same issue, could this be a result of purchasing from them? Any help or insight as to why the fans of the Dell XPS 15 are so loud and information on how to solve the problem would be greatly appreciated. Go to Solution. When you launch the app, it can take a while to open in my experience, over a minute but it is honestly useful enough to have come as "bloatware" with the product.
I'm running dualboot Windows 10 and Ubuntu Everything works properly, however the fans are continuously going on and off. The CPU temp is between 39 - 42 degrees celsius. I think the fans are activated somewhere within this range, then cool the CPU and thus get the signal again to stop the fans, etc.
On Windows, the fans are completely off at idle or light work. Disable fan BIOS control see link. I guess that Ubuntu is unable to see the fans and is thus unable to take control over them. Any suggestions to gain control over them? Then follow this guide to install i8kutils :.
Simply run i8kmon to control your fans or try ik8fan to manually control your fans. A less intrusive method to get less temperature and therefore no fans are required is using powertop. In order to get the changes permanently, see How do I make Powertop changes permanent? However, in the help of TLP it is said that 'attempting to apply powertop's --auto-tune settings on each boot will conflict with TLP'.
By now, it is working fine for me XPS 15bios 1. First I have calibred Powertop for my sytem calibration process taking a few minutes and making the computer partially unusable during this timeafter this I have execute it.
Dell Power Manager seems to me that he calibrated the bios with this value, this is satisfying for me. Optimized mode seems to the best setting for Linux. My laptop has become very quiet and I am finally fully satisfied with it. Ubuntu Community Ask! Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top. My fans are nice and quiet. TOO quiet, when they should be working. I've heard the fans at full speed and they should be there more often when it is required. Go to Solution. I recall Dell Command Power Manager has an additional max performance power profile with raised fan rpms. Fans don't reach them, unfortunately. Check iunlock's mod - adds some internal fin surface and redirects some of the cooling air, but requires good tinkering experience.

I have Ultimate.
It aborts It is a Shame that Dell listened to people about quiet fans early onChicago snapped their 10-game losing streak with a 119-111 OT win last night in Charlotte. Give the Bulls credit for finding their offense, but it was just their 4th win in 24 games this season and we don't suspect a winning streak is about to begin.
They're 0-4 ATS both off a SU win and when playing without rest between games. The Knicks whipped Memphis last time out and did so without Tim Hardaway, who's out with a leg injury. His loss is baked into this number as far as we're concerned. We have a Knicks' team that's covered seven of their last nine against teams with a losing record, while covering five in a row in this series. I'm laying the points with the Knicks on Saturday. All my picks are based on interpretation of statistics, context and personal judgement.
Each selection is primarily based on available value for long-term profits and not short priced easy favourites. Ultimately, I use my own analysis in combination with intelligent based software. Wazzu's defense has steadily gotten worse as the season goes along. They allowed 91 to Idaho on the road and 81 to UC Davis as well.
Robert Franks and Malachi Flynn are averaging over 36 points per game combined. UTEP is feeling good after a 88-76 home win over New Mexico last time out. They will be once again without Matt Wilms in the middle.
That will make the Miners defense much worse considering he's their enforcer type. Extra pressure now on Keith Frazier and Omega Harris. UTEP has gone over in 14 of their last 21 games when the total is 140 to 149. This game features the 13-11 Sixers and the 18-8 Cavs. This game will be easy pickings as the Sixers will rest their star Joel Embid and this line just is too low.
Cavs lost outrite last night at the Pacers and will not be to happy going into this one. In the last nine years, this situation is sensational 23-3.Prices began rising right after the OPEC announcement. On May 25, 2017, OPEC extended these cuts through March 2018. The EIA forecasts OPEC will produce 32. But both figures are still higher than the 2015 average before the "cuts.
In 2014, it abandoned this policy. Saudi Arabia, OPEC's biggest contributor, lowered its price to its largest customers in October 2014. It did not want to lose market share to U.
These two countries' rivalry stems from the conflict between the Sunni and Shiite branches of Islam. Iran promised to double its oil exports to 2.
The nuclear peace treaty allowed Saudi Arabia's biggest rival to sell oil in 2016. Saudi Arabia correctly bet that lower prices would force many U.
At first, shale producers found ways to keep the oil pumping. Thanks to increased U. But the strong dollar meant OPEC countries could remain profitable at lower oil prices. At the same time, global demand grew slowly, from 92. Most of the increase was from China, which now consumes 12 percent of global oil production. But its economic reforms are slowing growth. In February 2016, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Iran discussed a production freeze. That briefly put a floor under plummeting oil prices.
But it didn't pan out because Iran and Russia refused to cut their production. By then, the cheap sources of oil will have been exhausted, making it more expensive to extract oil. By 2026, the United States will become a net energy exporter. It has been an energy importer since 1953. Oil production will rise until 2030, when shale oil production will slow.
The EIA's forecasts all depend on 1) what happens with U. The predictions given here are for the EIA's most likely scenario. It based its prediction on skyrocketing demand from China and other emerging markets. It seems unlikely now that shale oil has become available. That didn't stop the EU from being the world's third-largest oil consumer. As long as people have time to adjust, they will find ways to live with higher oil prices. Furthermore, 2020 is only three years away.
Look how volatile prices have been in the last 10 years. It plummeted to a 13-year low in January, then doubled to current levels. OPEC is counting on it.
